Science Lounge: The war on Ukraine in the media and public sphere

The war on Ukraine in the media and public sphere – What is expected of science? What can it provide?

As part of the IfL Research Workshop 2023, the EEGA Science Lounge on 22 March explores the question „The war on Ukraine in the media and public sphere – What is expected of science? What can it provide?“. In the moderated discussion in an informal atmosphere, prominent guests from science and the media will discuss with the participants of the research workshop and the interested public. Following on from the theme of the workshop, research in and about challenging environments – as conflicts, wars and authoritarianism – , questions of responsibility, accountability, the power of language and the violence of representation will be discussed.

What can and should one do as a researcher? What are the strengths of scientific discourse and the challenges of representation in the media? How do we make contact and how do we successfully communicate? Last but not least: what do people expect from information about wars and crises? These are some of the questions that the discussants will critically explore.

The Science Lounge starts at 5 pm at Café Madrid (Klostergasse 3-5, 04109 Leipzig). After the discussion with the guests, the event will move into informal exchange. Guests are very welcome to join us for a drink.
